Founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1881, Movado has established itself as a leading luxury watchmaker over the last 100 plus years, and is most famous for its Museum Collection of luxury watches. As with any great brand, there are a number of things which make Movado distinct, even among other Swiss watchmakers. It is this distinction that has earned it a loyal and profitable following.

The Three Movado Styles

Movado watches can be broken down into three main categories, which are traditional, classic and artistic. While Movado is for the most part known for its minimalist approach in terms of design, this is not the case with its traditional watches, the most popular being the Gentry. The style displayed by the Gentry is more traditional than the Museum, and will have classical markings and numbers at each position combined with stainless steel or leather. Aside from the Gentry, another example of Movado’s traditional styling is in their Chronograph watches.

The classic style is what Movado is best known for. It emphasizes a minimalist approach and while these watches may come with different names, they all incorporate the same streamlined and elegant design. The Museum is the most famous example of this style and displays a basic watch face with a single marker in the twelve o’clock spot. The marker will often come in the form of a dot made from either diamond or gold. It makes Movado watches completely distinct from other brands both in and outside of Switzerland, and makes the watch instantly recognizable anywhere in the world.

Artistic styled Movado watches are known for their creative design and structured dials. A great example of this is the female Timema, which has the style of a bracelet and utilizes a dial which is tapered and shaped inside the watch. The clasp can be seen in front, beneath the face. The Ono is another example of the Artistic style, as it features a band comprised of circles made from stainless steel which are identical to the dial. Every circle is embellished with one diamond, and each diamond is staggered in order to provide the watch with a more contemporary design.

Wearing Your Movado

A Movado watch is the perfect piece to have in your collection. It can be worn daily or you can reserve it for special occasions. Regardless, you can be rest assured that when properly cared for these watches will last a lifetime, and is something you can pass on to your children and grandchildren. Movado watches do not go out of style, as they have a style of their own. They do come with a high price tag and that is because they are worth every penny. The craftsmanship used in the creation of these time pieces is exceptional in every way. Whether you’re buying a Movado for a male or female, style is one of the most important things to consider. Look for a watch which is innovative and an extension of your personal tastes.
