Origins

In 1982 David Yurman revealed what has become his trademark cable bracelet, which consisted of a helix which was twisted and decorated using gemstones. Both he along with his wife Sybil Yurman begins as small time jewelry designers who were largely unknown to the public, but over the last forty years they’ve built an empire worth an estimated $600 million, which is an incredible achievement to say the least. Aside from the company’s exceptional marketing, many of his pieces utilize pave’ diamonds, and in fact he was one of the earliest jewelers to set such diamonds within silver. He refers to this as Silver Ice, and played a key role in transforming diamonds into daily luxuries. He is also highly regarded for his stone cuts, which are innovative, with one of the best examples being his Albion Collection. David has a background in metalwork which he has practiced since his teens and after his NYU graduation he served as an apprentice to Jacques Lipchitz, a modernist style sculptor.

As a result, Yurman himself is a master sculptor, and his wife wanted him to design a piece which was simple for her to wear. An art gallery owner was so impressed with the jewel that he offered to immediately purchase it at first glance, which of course Sybil turned down since the jewelry meant a lot to her. But this was a sign that the couple was on to something, and prompted them to found their own jewelry firm.  David continues his work as a sculptor while Sybil prioritizes painting, and both tasks heavily influence their jewelry designs. Many industry experts believe that the success of David Yurman stems from the fact that both he and his wife are lifelong art lovers whose proficiency in multiple disciplines allowed their jewelry line to stand out from their peers.

The chains have been crafted within fine silver sterling and feature black onyx that is faceted along with lovely pearl accents.
