This beautiful women’s watch made by Movado features a bracelet which is made from yellow gold and makes a wonderful gift for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, anniversaries or graduation ceremonies.

Origins

Movado was established in Switzerland in 1881 and is one of the world’s oldest watchmakers. In Esperanto its name means “always in motion” and many of their timepieces are famous for the signature dot which can be seen near the 12 o’clock position. Achille Ditesheim opened the business in La Chaux de Fonds, a town that has become renowned for its watch manufacture. The Ditesheim family already owned multiple businesses there and it was therefore the logical choice for launching Movado.

After a period of roughly twenty years, the company had grown to a point where it had over eighty employees. Because the Ditesheim family was immigrants who came to Switzerland with little attachment to classical watchmaking models, they were able to innovate the industry while avoiding the 1870s watchmaking crisis.

While the company produced many successful timepieces, it was the Museum that brought them international acclaim. This watch was envisioned by Nathan George Horwitt who had decided to create a watch with a simple yet elegant design which used a singular dot near 12, which symbolized sunlight during high noon. The dial received praise and the New York Museum of Modern Art chose it for their permanent collection.

Design Characteristics

Though the company is now American owned, it retains its Swiss roots, especially with regard to the design. The brand is most famous for their Museum Series, but most of their watches including this women’s 14k gold timepiece share a number of core design characteristics, which are a minimalist presentation, shape which is perfectly round, a singular dot within the face and a dial which is pristine in every respect.

Unlike other luxury watchmakers, who choose designs which are intricate, Movado opts for a clutter free approach that has endeared it to watch enthusiasts all over the world. Indeed, it is the preferred option for those that desire convenience, practicality and an alluring appearance. Furthermore, a lot of the Movado watches incorporate an analog based display, which will appeal to traditional buyers that have little interest in modern electronic features or batteries.
