They were easy to acquire and the collections were easy to complete; this was both the blessing and curse of the Three Cent Nickels. While some numismatists enjoyed gathering the small coins with the particularly attractive obverse, they also found the entire process way too easy. The lack of rarity in the collection represented quite a deterrent for some collectors.

As its name suggests, the Kennedy half-dollar has been minted to honor the United States’ 35th president, JFK. The production of the collectible coin began in 1964, a year after Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. To be more precise, while in 1964 there were over 400 million dated coins, in 2011 the production figures dropped to 3 million.

However, these coins were not created in the official government mints, but rather by smaller private ones. These coins are without a doubt attractive collectibles, but mainly because of the popularity and mixed feelings generated by Obama’s actions and measures. In other words, whether you support him or fully disagree with the way he runs the country and blame him for the current state of affairs, Obama’s presidency represents an important historical turning point.
As the US Mint announced at the beginning of last December, they have selected the designs for the Presidential Dollar Coins that are coming this year. In 2014, the presidential collection will feature the 29th to the 32nd presidents of the United Stated, namely Harding, Coolidge, Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The Presidential Dollar Coin collection is a program started in 2007 at the directive of the Congress that asked the Mint to release four dollar coins each year for general circulation. In spite of the fact that over the past few years the Mint released an impressive number of coins, it appears that the American public never actually took to them. Due to the substantial amount of unused presidential dollar coins that were never in demand, the Mint decided to discontinue the program in 2011.
