Get To Know These Highly Desirable Rolex Timepieces
When people talk about luxury watches, they often mention the Swiss luxury watchmaker – Rolex. The reason why they are constantly being discussed is because of their value. Rolex timepieces have strong intrinsic value. If you want to expand your knowledge on Rolex’s timeless creations, here are some of the most desirable vintage watches that have caught the attention of collectors around the world.
Rolex Daytona Panda
Rolex timepieces are known to feature beautiful dials. However, it is the minor differences that often cause excitement among collectors – check out the Daytona Panda. You should know that in the past, almost all Rolex watches of the reference were quite similar. They only had a few differences here and there. Today, Rolex has an extremely strict production process. More distinct variations are now visible between two watches of the same reference.
With that in mind, this circa 1969 Daytona Panda features a number of highly interesting details. The watch is fitted with a smaller winding crown, which suggests that the central part of the case may have come from a 6262. It also features a very rare MK1 dial and the font on it is slightly different from that of the more popular Panda versions. Lastly, this watch features a case back with the 6239 engraving. You should keep in mind that the main difference between References 6262 and 6263 are the screw-down and unscrewed pushers respectively.
Rolex Daytona Reference 16568br
This is an extremely rare and mind-blowing 18K gold, diamond, and emerald-set automatic chronograph wristwatch. This circa 1995 Rolex timepiece made its appearance at Christie’s in Geneva. Rolex Daytona Reference 16568br is still a sports watch at heart. Its gold appearance is further enhanced with the most beautiful gemstones, therefore pushing conventional boundaries. That’s not all. This watch concealed a mini-secret under the dial –an improved and heavily modified El Primero movement.
Rolex Daytona Reference 6263
The circa 1985 stainless-steel chronograph wristwatch is considered a quintessential Rolex chronograph. The simplicity of this rare and very fine watch continues to impress Rolex collectors and enthusiasts even after so many years. Although you can find a Rolex Daytona Reference 6263 watch relatively quickly (it depends on how much you are willing or able to spend), it is far more difficult to lock down a watch from this particular model series. It was eventually sold at Christie’s in Geneva for CHF 156,250. This watch easily ticks every box on a Rolex collector’s wish list. For example, it gives its owner the satisfaction of winding the crown to supply the watch with power.
Rolex Reference 6062
The circa 1950, automatic, 18K pink gold, triple calendar wristwatch features one of the rarest star dials. The star markers on the dial are supplied by the dial manufacturer Stern. That’s not all. The Reference 6062 Rolex timepiece comes with a moon phase feature. The engraving inside the case cover is another interesting detail that needs to be mentioned. The engraved reference number, “6063,” has been crossed out. The number “6062” takes its place. You should keep in mind that both reference numbers were designed as moon-phase watches. Although 6063s were produced alongside 6062s, most of them were withdrawn prior to sale. Did you know that Rolex only made 50 Reference 6062s in pink gold? This featured watch is Number 5.
Rolex Day-Date 18078
This extremely rare 18K gold and diamond-set automatic Rolex timepiece was owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The circa 1979 wristwatch has the reference number, 18078, and features sweep center seconds, day, and date. Rolex Day-Dates have been on the market since the 1950s. However, the Rolex Day-Date 18078 does not share a lot of similarities with the first Day-Date Reference 6510.
As the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, it is not surprising to find that this Day-Date features a special inscription on the dial. The Sheikh is recognized for his generosity, where most of his gifts were Rolex timepieces that bore the unmistakable crown. For example, an employee of the Sheikh’s Scotland country estate received one of these gifts upon his/her retirement.
