New Zealand Mint Launches the Disney-Pixar Cars Coin Collection
Since 1995 Disney/Pixar has proven to be a formidable duo in the world of animation. Their release of Toy Story spawned a successful string of films which have been ongoing for the last 22 years. Other titles such as Finding Nemo and Monster Inc. have been box office hits which have created a loyal and dedicated fan base. The New Zealand Mint is proud to commemorate this success through the release of this Disney-Pixar Carssilver coin collection.
Product Details
This release consists of four coins which share a number of similarities in terms of mintage, purity and design. When shipped they will arrive in Perspex coin cases with exterior packaging that is related to the series. Each coin will also be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Mintages for this collection are limited with only 10,000 units planned for issue. Each of the Disney/Pixar coins is comprised of a single troy ounce of silver with a purity of 99.9 percent. All of the coins within this collection are also colorized, but this is restricted to the reverse side and includes the character image and film logo.
The first four coins will focus on the movie Car’s, which was released in 2006 and won the Golden Globe Award while being nominated for a couple of Academy Awards. The four characters from the film that will be featured include Sally the Porsche, Doc Hudson, Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater. Doc Hudson was the first Piston Cup champion, and although he turned his back on the circuit, McQueen was able to bring him around by the conclusion of the film. McQueen is a racing rookie who ends up in the fictional town of Radiator Springs, where he meets Doc, who ultimately shows him how to become a professional racer.
Sally was once a prominent attorney that worked in Los Angeles, but moved to Radiator Springs to start a new beginning. She runs a motel in the town while providing legal services, and meets Lighting McQueen and the gang. Tow Mater is a character who operates a tow truck service in Radiator Springs and he was popular with fans for his affable personality and loyalty to McQueen despite his below average intelligence. Each of the coins in this series is designed in such a way where it reflects the personality of the characters which appear in the film, which is a nice touch that will appeal to fans.

It is no surprise to enthusiasts that the New Zealand Mint was chosen by Disney/Pixar to mint these coins. In recent years this institution has become highly regarded for their sharp, colorized coins and the incredible detail they put into them. Located in the city of Auckland, the New Zealand Mint has been in operation for more than forty years and during that time it has produced a variety medallions, collectible coins and bullion. It was one of the first institutions to incorporate a purity standard of .9999 percent.
