A Series of 1896 $1 'Educational Series' Silver Certificate Fr#225 with the signatures Bruce/Roberts and Serial # 34295897 graded Very Good 8 with an annotation for 'corner missing' by PMG. This note displays an original paper color with browning typical of the grade, heavy visible creases/folds, bottom left obverse corner is missing, several pinholes that are not annotated and nice even margins. Large size silver certificates were a form of paper currency produced from 1878 - 1923 (Small Size until 1964) and were issued as a type of representative money. Initially made in response to the Fourth Coinage Act which placed the United States under the gold standard, the bills were meant to be redeemed for their face value in silver coin and later from June 1967 - June 1968 in raw silver bullion.
