A Series of 1886 $2 Large Size Silver Certificate Fr#240 with the signatures Rosecrans/Jordan and Serial # B2800744 graded Fine 12 with an annotation for 'Insect Damage' by PMG. This note displays an original paper color with light browning throughout, visible creases/folds, insect damage in the form of small holes in the center and uneven margins. Large size silver certificates were a form of paper currency produced from 1878 - 1923 (Small Size until 1964) and were issued as a type of representative money. Initially made in response to the Fourth Coinage Act which placed the United States under the gold standard, the bills were meant to be redeemed for their face value in silver coin and later from June 1967 - June 1968 in raw silver bullion.
