The Draped Bust large cent was a one cent denomination of U.S. currency that was minted from 1796-1807. Designed by Chief Engraver of the United States Mint Robert Scot (1793-1823), the Draped Bust pattern featured a profiled bust of Liberty facing left wearing drapery around her neckline and a ribbon in her more ‘tamed’ hair. The date appears directly below the bust and LIBERTY directly above. The reverse displays an olive wreath with the legends “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on the outer fields and the fraction “1/100” or “1/000” on some pieces dated 1801-1803 below the wreath. All Draped Bust large cents were struck at the Philadelphia mint, and therefore lack a mintmark. Parameters set for the Draped Bust large cent: 100% Copper composition, a total weight of 10.89 grams, diameter of 29 mm and featured a plain edge.
